Christmas-New year Period.

December is nearly over i have spent a few days visiting family in Derbyshire, with very little serious birding done, i have searched through the gulls at the usual good spots but the refuse tips have been discouraging the gulls so i found very little. The only birds i did find were a 1st Winter med Gull, 2 Argentatus Herring Gulls Ruddy Ducks and a Great-northern Diver at Carsington Water. Couldnt find any Hawfinch this time either.

On Returning to Cumbria i have checked Soddy a few times but again very little, the pond is frozen and the Wildfowl have gone, a few Bullfinch, Treesparrows and Yellow Hammers brightened the Day. A Pinkfoot is still with the resident Greylags.

Rach and i have been to Caerlaverock. We checked Redkirk point as the Cackling (minima) Canada Goose had been seen here the day before. I couldnt find it. We got to Caerlaverock and had dinner then went to have a look for the Green Winged Teal, but couldnt find that either. So We went to the top of the farm Tower where we had good views on the whole reserve. Firstly i found the Cackling (minima) Canada Goose,

and then the Taverners Canada goose, which hadnt been reported for a while from here,

a Male Hen Harrier was a nice addition to the day. We finished off watching the Swans and the hybrid Scaup x Tuftie.

December 1st-7th

All Week i have been passing Central Car Park In Keswick to get lovely views of between 30 and 42 Waxwings. But not seen much else really. Soddy hosted 60+ Meadow pipit, a lot for Soddy, 40+ Chaffinch, 12 Long-tailed tit, 3 Goldcreast, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Dead Greylag in Ice!!!!!, Kestrel and the usual Tree Sparrows, Yellow Hammers, and Reed buntings.
